Youzhny beats Robredo to slow Spain's reign

CBSSpo Venus Williams arrived at this U.S. Open with a bum knee. She hadnt played a match in more than two months. She hadnt reached the semifinals at any Grand Slam tournament in more than a year.

And now? Williams is two victories away from her first U.S. Open title since 2001.

The No. 3-seeded Williams overcame nine double-faults and a total of 33 unforced errors to beat reigning French Open champion Francesca Schiavone 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the quarterfinals Tuesday night.

Djokovic, Federer, Wozniacki advance to quaters

CBSSpo What could have been a great day for American tennis instead turned into a dominating afternoon for Novak Djokovic.

The third-seeded Djokovic routed No. 19-seeded American Mardy Fish, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 on Monday, sapping the energy from both his opponent and nearly packed Arthur Ashe Stadium and leaving only one American man in the draw at the U.S. Open.

Djokovic, eyeing his third straight U.S. Open semifinal, will play No. 17 Gael Monfils in the quarters. Earlier, Monfils beat fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-4, 7-5, 7-5.

Murray KO'd; Venus, Nadal, Clijsters win at Open

CBSSpo No. 4 Andy Murray made an earlier-than-expected exit from the U.S. Open, losing in the third round to No. 25 Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland on Sunday.

Britains Murray was a popular pick this year, based on trips to the finals at Flushing Meadows two years ago and this years Australian Open, along with a win in Montreal last month in which he beat both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

Jankovic upset in third round by No. 31 player

CBSSpo Maria Sharapova knows the story all too well: An unknown American kid shows up at the U.S. Open, upsets a seeded player, gains some buzz and belief, then gets a shot at Sharapova in the third round.
